About the role:
  
The Cloud Lead is responsible for leading the organisation’s transition from predominantly on-premise infrastructure to modern cloud platforms.

This role provides both strategic leadership and hands-on technical expertise in designing, building and migrating infrastructure and applications to the cloud. The role develops the organisation’s cloud architecture, establishes governance frameworks, and leads migration initiatives while actively implementing and supporting cloud infrastructure.

As part of a small ICT team, the role combines architecture, engineering and implementation responsibilities, ensuring that cloud solutions are secure, scalable, cost effective and aligned with organisational needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies and service for optimal performance and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain the organisation’s cloud strategy and adoption roadmap.
  • Design and maintain the enterprise cloud architecture, including networking, identity, security, monitoring and governance.
  • Establish cloud landing zones and architectural standards for cloud deployments.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for ICT projects adopting cloud technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and recommend improvements to the organisation’s infrastructure platform.
  • Assess existing on-premise infrastructure and applications to determine suitability for cloud migration.
  • Develop migration strategies including rehost, replatform, refactor or SaaS adoption approaches.
  • Plan and lead migration waves and workload transition plans.
  • Identify dependencies, risks and mitigation strategies during migration.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight during migration execution.
  • Design and implement Azure cloud infrastructure and core platform services.
  • Configure cloud networking, identity, security and monitoring solutions.
  • Build hybrid infrastructure integrating on-premise environments with cloud platforms.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment frameworks.
  • Deploy and manage infrastructure supporting organisational applications and services.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, connectivity and migration issues.
  • Support ongoing improvement of cloud platforms through automation and optimisation.
  • Implement security measures to protect cloud infrastructure and data including encryption, access control and monitoring.
  • Implement governance frameworks covering identity, networking, resource management and security.
  • Ensure cloud platforms comply with organisational cybersecurity and information governance policies.
  • Implement monitoring, logging and alerting across cloud infrastructure.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities for cloud platforms.
  • Monitor and optimise cloud costs and resource utilisation.
  • Implement cost governance practices and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability and efficiency of cloud platforms.
Experience
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure architecture and services
  • Experience designing enterprise and hybrid cloud architectures
  • Strong understanding of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS architectures
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure
  • Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (VMware)
  • Hybrid networking (VP)
  • Automation scripting (PowerShell, Python)
  • CI/CD and infrastructure deployment pipelines
  • Microsoft Entra ID and identity management
  • Cloud security architecture and best practices
  • Monitoring and logging platforms
  • Containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Observability and monitoring platforms
  • Backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • At least 5 years of experience in designing, deploying and supporting complex and scalable IT Cloud Solutions.
  • Previous experience with cloud migration strategies (lift-and-shift, re-platforming).
  • 3-5 years’ experience as an infrastructure or solution engineer, architect, team leader, manager or suitable equivalent.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar certifications are highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), automation scripting/programming languages (Python, Bash) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) are highly regarded.
