We are currently seeking an experienced Local Laws Officer for a local government contract opportunity within a busy community safety team.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in local laws, ranger services, animal management, parking enforcement or community compliance, who is confident working independently in the field, managing complaints and delivering practical compliance outcomes.

About the role

You will play a key role in improving community safety and amenity through the education, investigation and enforcement of relevant legislation and local laws across the municipality.

Key responsibilities include:

• Investigating complaints relating to local laws and animal management
• Conducting patrols and responding to customer requests across the municipality
• Issuing notices, infringements and compliance directions where required
• Undertaking animal-related inspections, including restricted breed and animal facility inspections
• Providing advice and education to residents, ratepayers and visitors
• Maintaining accurate records and updating council systems daily
• Assisting with evidence preparation and supporting legal proceedings where required

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

• Experience in local laws, ranger services, animal management or statutory compliance
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including local laws and animal management
• Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
• Strong written communication and report-writing ability
