We are seeking a reliable and hands-on Animal Attendant to support the daily operations of a local government animal pound.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in animal handling, kennel operations, animal welfare or pound services, who is comfortable working in a physically active environment and committed to maintaining high standards of animal care.

About the role

You will assist with the day-to-day care and management of impounded and surrendered animals while supporting council compliance and animal welfare outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Feeding, cleaning and caring for impounded animals daily
• Handling dogs, cats and other animals safely and confidently
• Cleaning kennels, cages and pound facilities to maintain hygiene standards
• Assisting with animal admissions, releases and record keeping
• Monitoring animal health and reporting concerns
• Supporting reunification, adoption and customer interactions
• Assisting Animal Management Officers as required

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

• Experience working with animals in a pound, shelter, kennel, vet clinic or similar setting
• Confidence handling a range of animal temperaments
• Strong understanding of animal welfare and safe handling practices
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
• Good communication skills and a calm, practical approach
