 $51 per hour + super
 12-month contract

We are currently seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Team Leader to join a progressive metropolitan local government organisation in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

You’ll be joining a collaborative and forward-thinking finance team, where your contribution will directly support the delivery of essential community services.

The Opportunity As the Accounts Payable Team Leader, you’ll take ownership of the end-to-end Accounts Payable function while also overseeing Accounts Receivable operations. Leading a small but critical team, you’ll ensure the smooth running of day-to-day processes while identifying and implementing improvements across systems, controls, and workflows.

This role offers a strong mix of hands-on leadership and strategic input, giving you the opportunity to influence both operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership
  • Lead the end-to-end Accounts Payable and Receivable functions within a high-volume environment
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, payments, and debtor transactions
  • Ensure reconciliations align with the general ledger
  • Maintain the creditor master file with strong audit controls
Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small accounts operations team
  • Drive capability uplift through training, mentoring, and cross-skilling
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiency initiatives
  • Play a key role in system upgrades, implementations, and testing
  • Maintain and enhance policies, procedures, and internal controls
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Provide expert advice and support to internal stakeholders
  • Manage and resolve queries in a timely, professional manner
  • Build strong working relationships across the organisation
Financial Operations Support
  • Contribute to year-end activities and reporting requirements
  • Support broader finance team initiatives
About You You are a confident finance professional with strong leadership capability and a background in high-volume Accounts Payable environments.
You will bring:
  • Extensive experience in Accounts Payable within medium to large organisations
  • Proven experience leading or supervising a team
  • Exposure to Accounts Receivable processes
  • Strong process improvement and systems experience
  • Sound knowledge of GST and financial controls
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities
